NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Yolanda Whitfield was the top finisher Saturday as 1,749 people took part in the Platte River Promise Run and Walk along North Platte’s Riverside Greenway, raising $149,050 for a children’s hospital fund.
Runners and walkers followed the riverside path in the fall morning before gathering at the Greenway Landing trailhead, where volunteers handed out water and directed participants through the finish area. The event paired a timed run with a community walk so families, supporters and more experienced runners could participate together.
Organizer Junko Reyes said the turnout showed broad support for pediatric care and credited volunteers and participants for carrying the event from registration through the finish. Proceeds will go to the children’s hospital fund to support its work with young patients and their families.
