CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Champaign County election workers have begun an automatic recount of ballots cast on the Neighborhood Health Preparedness Levy, a nonpartisan measure that would fund mobile vaccination clinics, emergency medical supplies and neighborhood preparedness training. The measure passed by 7 percentage points, a margin that triggered the recount under county election procedures.
County election official Isaiah Suzuki said staff members are reviewing and retabulating ballots for the measure while preserving the original election materials. The recount is focused on the levy question and does not alter the reported results of other contests.
Turnout in the county was 49%. The county elections office has not changed the reported outcome of the levy while the automatic recount is underway.
