DOVER, Del. — A nine-year dispute between neighbors over who may use and pass through a shared driveway off Maplewood Avenue has brought Dover police to the homes eight times, according to the department. The disagreement remains unresolved, although calls tied to the driveway conflict have become less frequent.
Neighbor Delphine Tanaka said the recurring conflict has made routine arrivals and departures a source of tension. The driveway is the only vehicle access serving the adjoining properties, and the dispute has centered on access through the narrow paved lane rather than a single isolated incident.
Police department spokesperson Farrah Whitcombe said officers have responded to keep the peace and document complaints, but the department has not settled the underlying property-access disagreement. Residents have been urged to avoid confrontations and pursue a civil resolution over the shared access.
