Andrews Strategic Holdings said its Aug. 15 Tampa Bay Small Business & Opportunity Day drew approximately 1,450 attendees and connected local entrepreneurs and job seekers with business, career and investment resources.
The company released the figures in a statement describing the free event at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park. ASH said more than 60 local small businesses and entrepreneurs participated, including 34 businesses that received complimentary marketplace space.
According to the release, ASH staff conducted 87 one-on-one business consultations. The sessions addressed finance, analytics, technology, cybersecurity, operations and growth, the company said.
The event also included a Career & Skills Pavilion that generated more than 240 employment and career conversations, ASH reported. Those contacts included 116 résumé submissions or talent registrations, 41 initial screenings or interview referrals, and 53 workforce or training referrals.
ASH said its Tampa Bay Founder Challenge received 38 applications. Five finalists were selected to present, and three businesses advanced to further investment discussions. One business has entered a formal 30-day due-diligence review for a potential investment of up to $100,000, according to the company.
Christopher A. Andrews, ASH’s founder and chief executive, said the company had committed to measuring the initiative after the event rather than limiting its assessment to attendance.
“A résumé needs to become an interview, a business introduction needs to become a relationship, and entrepreneurs need opportunities to put good advice into practice,” Andrews said in the release.
The reported figures describe contacts, referrals and prospective investment activity rather than completed hiring or investment outcomes. ASH said it will continue tracking employment, business and investment results connected to the event and use those findings to guide future community initiatives in the Tampa Bay area.
Andrews said the company wants its growth to create local opportunities as its operations expand.
