LOS ANGELES — Six of the seven roads closed by heavy rain in Los Angeles have reopened after floodwater receded, but Arroyo Vista Drive along Bellflower Creek remains barricaded while county inspectors prepare a structural examination of the roadbed and retaining wall.

County Public Works Director Harold Reyes said crews cleared mud and debris from the other routes, allowing them to return to service. At Arroyo Vista Drive, however, water erosion along the creekside edge left the route unsuitable for reopening until inspectors determine whether the supporting wall and pavement base remain sound.

The county expects the closure could last four days and has estimated repairs at $346,464. Commuter Owen Suzuki said the continuing closure has forced drivers who use the creekside route onto longer neighborhood detours. Reyes said the road will remain closed unless the structural inspection finds it safe to reopen.
