Olivia Hart has released her first pop song, “Just Getting Started,” a track centered on the uneasy but hopeful stretch between an ending and whatever comes next.

In an interview, Hart said the song grew from the transitions many young people face when one part of life closes and another begins. Rather than treating change only as a loss or an obstacle, she wanted the song to recognize both the difficulty of starting over and the possibility within it.

“Many young people are going through transitions in their life where one thing is coming to an end,” Hart said. “The song is about the feeling of change and how an ending really is just a beginning of something new and the struggles of just starting out.”

For Hart, the emotional center of that experience is hope. Change can be frightening, she said, but it can also move people to learn quickly about themselves and discover what they want next. That balance is intended to be part of the song’s message for listeners working through their own uncertain moments.

“The hopeful feeling” was most important to capture, Hart said. “To me the most exciting part about any change is how much you learn about yourself in such a short time period. Change can be scary but it can also be very exciting.”

Hart said she built that arc into the production of “Just Getting Started.” The song begins with a less upbeat, relatively limited sound before gradually adding more elements and becoming more energetic. The progression is meant to mirror the movement from hesitation toward possibility.

She hopes listeners—particularly those in the middle of a major change—come away feeling less isolated. “They aren’t alone in their feelings,” Hart said, adding that even fear can coexist with a reason to feel excited.

The release arrives at a time when transitions can touch many parts of community life: students preparing for college, people taking up new work or hobbies, families adjusting to change, or anyone trying to find confidence at the beginning of a new chapter. Hart’s focus is not on offering a simple answer to those challenges, but on making space for the mixed emotions that come with them.

While “Just Getting Started” is her first release, Hart said she does not plan to use one production formula for every future song. She approaches each track as its own story, beginning with the feeling she wants the listener to have and shaping the lyrics and production around that goal. She said that, at this point in her life, she is drawn to coming-of-age themes while also wanting simply to share stories and make music people can enjoy.

Hart is now working on another song, “Jubilee,” which she described as being about the rush of beginning something new that feels all-consuming—whether that is college, a relationship or a hobby. She hopes it can serve as an anthem for people in that moment, while also giving others a few minutes of that same excitement.

She expects to release “Jubilee” in the next few weeks and plans to perform at several concerts around California after it is finished. For now, “Just Getting Started” marks the opening statement of an artist looking to meet listeners where change begins: with uncertainty, hope and the chance to move forward.
