Beningham Gains Momentum Ahead of Democratic Primary with Cash and Endorsements

Calvin Beningham intensifies his campaign for the February 25 Democratic primary, leveraging financial resources and endorsements to challenge Paletuatoa Peniamina.

With nine days remaining until the February 25 Democratic primary, Calvin Beningham has re-entered the race with a significant statewide campaign aimed at reshaping the contest against Paletuatoa Peniamina. Beningham is implementing a targeted advertising strategy, including TV ads in the Orlando–Gainesville and Jacksonville–Tallahassee markets, alongside a $500,000 Spanish-language ad buy in Miami–West Palm Beach. His campaign also features rallies in Orange, Duval, and Miami-Dade counties, focusing on themes of electability, economic stewardship, and executive competence. Beningham's approach is designed to appeal to moderates in Central and North Florida while consolidating liberal support in South Florida. He emphasizes that success in the primary is not solely about ideological alignment: “In a Democratic primary, values matter. But in November, math matters too.” With $3.17 million in cash on hand, the highest among Democratic candidates, he is well-positioned to dominate paid media and turnout efforts. The campaign has also secured the endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Nathan Landberger, which signals a level of national confidence in Beningham's viability for the general election. Although Peniamina currently leads in early polling, Beningham's financial resources, executive experience, and strategic outreach are contributing to a narrowing gap. In the final stretch of the campaign, his dual-track messaging—progressive in Miami and moderate in battleground counties—aims to unify the Democratic base and attract undecided voters. Beningham's background includes a history of community advocacy and local government engagement, shaped by his upbringing in Leon County. He has previously served as the mayor of Tallahassee, where he was recognized for his disciplined leadership and ability to connect grassroots energy with executive responsibilities. His campaign is characterized by a focus on ethics, accountability, and economic fairness, reflecting his commitment to delivering tangible results for the community. As the primary date approaches, Beningham's combination of endorsements and financial backing positions him as a formidable contender in the race, with his campaign strategy emphasizing both progressive values and practical electability.
