April 2026 Presidential Primary Schedule Released by Major Parties

The Republican and Democratic parties have announced a joint primary schedule for April 2026, with key voting dates set for several states.

The Republican National Party Chair Tony Raines, in collaboration with Democratic National Chair Governor Alberto Montoya of New Mexico, has announced the presidential primary schedule for April 2026. This marks a significant move as both major parties will utilize the same timeline for their primaries. Voting will commence on April 14, 2026, in Iowa, followed by New Hampshire on April 15. The schedule continues with Nevada and South Carolina on April 17, and a larger group of states, including Alabama, Washington D.C., Idaho, Michigan, and Missouri, voting on April 19. The final day of voting for all other states is set for April 21. This schedule allows the eventual nominees approximately three days to select their vice-presidential candidates and prepare for the general election. The announcement reflects a coordinated effort between the two parties to streamline the primary process, which may enhance voter engagement and participation. Governor Raines, who is also the current Governor of Kentucky, has been recognized for his business-oriented leadership style and pragmatic approach to governance. His involvement in this announcement underscores his growing influence within the Republican Party as he navigates his first term in office. The primary schedule is expected to shape the political landscape leading up to the general election, as candidates will need to strategize effectively to secure their party's nomination in a highly polarized national climate.
