Video from a traffic stop at Idaho Street and Fifth Street in Elko shows a police K-9 unit being called to search a sedan, with the search turning up nothing. The initial clip, viewed about 612,000 times online, focused on the dog circling the vehicle and officers checking its interior.

Additional footage that surfaced later showed the stop began after an officer said the sedan had crossed the center line near the intersection and that the driver was told why the K-9 had been requested. The longer recording also showed the driver standing outside the vehicle during the search and leaving after officers found no contraband.

Police department spokesperson Owen Larrabee said the department's review of the stop lasted 22 days and included the additional recordings. City Council member Trevor Whitcombe said the episode underscored the importance of releasing a complete account when public video captures only part of a police encounter.
