LOS ANGELES — Heavy rain sent Bellflower Creek over its banks and across Arroyo Vista Drive in Los Angeles, leaving mud, broken pavement and debris along the creekside route. Seven roads were closed during the flooding, and Arroyo Vista Drive remains closed while county engineers inspect its roadbed and a retaining wall for structural damage.

County Public Works Director Harold Reyes said crews cleared standing water and reopened the other affected roads after the rain eased, but the remaining closure cannot be lifted until inspectors determine whether the soaked ground has undermined the route. The county expects the closure could last four days and has estimated repairs at $346,464.

Commuter Owen Suzuki said the closure forced drivers onto longer neighborhood detours during the morning trip. County crews placed barricades at both ends of Arroyo Vista Drive and advised motorists to use alternate routes until the inspection is complete.
