LINCOLN, Neb. — Eight hundred sixty runners and walkers filled the Willow Bend Riverway on Saturday for the Harvest Steps Run and Walk, raising $159,496 for the Lincoln Community Food Shelf. Odell Tanaka finished first as participants followed the riverside route through the fall morning.

Organizer Delphine Lindqvist said the event combined a competitive run with a walk intended to welcome families, neighbors and first-time participants. Volunteers staffed water tables and directed participants along the path before gathering finishers near the Riverway Pavilion.

The proceeds will support the food shelf's effort to provide grocery assistance to local households. Lindqvist said the turnout showed broad community backing for the pantry's work.
