MAYSVILLE, Ky. — Investigators reviewing 5,517 pieces of suspected counterfeit sports memorabilia seized from a storage unit at Riverbend Storage Court have found repeated authentication serial numbers on some items and are seeking records connected to possible online sales, consumer protection officer Cassius Okafor said.

The finding is a new development in the case that led to the arrests of five people and formal charges against the operation’s organizers. Authorities have estimated the seized merchandise at $295,664 and are continuing to catalog items, packaging and accompanying paperwork.

Okafor said investigators are asking buyers who believe they may have purchased memorabilia from the operation to keep receipts, shipping records and photographs of certificates or labels rather than discard them. The review of sales records is ongoing, and authorities have not said how many customers may be contacted.
