POTTSVILLE, Pa. — Crews continued repairing the gas line struck by construction workers at the Riverview Commerce Strip after a five-hour precautionary evacuation, with residents from 172 households still temporarily displaced while the damaged section was worked on.
Fire department spokesperson Miriam Whitcombe said crews had not lifted the evacuation because repairs and safety checks at the line were still in progress. Emergency personnel maintained the precautionary boundary around the commercial strip as utility work continued.
The evacuation was ordered after the construction strike damaged the line. Residents remained away from their homes at the end of the response period, pending completion of the repairs.
