Spin Zone Format:

Name and State:

Reason:

Target(s):

[Bullet points/brief outline of talking points during appearance.]

Reminder: you will be able to target no more than two of the following targets in a single spin zone and you cannot target different ends of the political spectrum like right wing and left wing. Additionally, you must use these targets, you cannot make up your own at this time.

- National Right Wing (e.g. Breitbart, Fox News Channel)

- National Center (e.g. NPR, The Hill)

- National Left Wing (e.g. MSNBC, The New York Times)

- Local (e.g. your local TV station, statewide news site)

- International (e.g. BBC News, Reuters)

Example:

Name and State: Joe Schmo (D-WA)

Reason: Outlawing Tuna Fishing

Target: Center, Left Wing (you don't necessarily have to use the National word if you are targeting a specific wing)

- Tuna populations, particularly species like bluefin, are critically overfished. Continuing to allow tuna fishing threatens the delicate balance of marine ecosystems, leading to the collapse of ocean food chains that many other species depend on.

- Tuna fishing methods often result in high levels of bycatch, accidentally trapping and killing other marine species, including dolphins, sharks, and sea turtles. Outlawing tuna fishing would help prevent unnecessary harm to these vulnerable species.

- Instead of depleting wild tuna stocks, the U.S. can focus on sustainable fishing practices and alternatives, such as tuna farming in controlled environments. This would preserve natural tuna populations while still supporting seafood industries and consumer demand.

Reason: Van Horn's Pathetic Veto

Target: National Left Wing and Right Wing

  • President Van Horn’s decision to veto the Pell Grant Preservation and Expansion Act is not just weak—it’s foolhardy and pathetic. This was a bill that passed the House unanimously and garnered 73 aye votes in the Senate, with zero opposing votes. In an era of partisanship, this was a rare moment of unity, and yet the President chose to ignore the will of Congress and, more importantly, the American people.
  • This President cannot read a room, let alone an entire country. While families struggle to afford education, he’s off in his own ‘Alice in Wonderland’ world, detached from reality, and oblivious to the needs of everyday Americans. His veto shows just how out of touch he truly is
  • Our nation is grappling with skyrocketing costs of living and dwindling opportunities for students. Instead of leading, President Van Horn continues to let this country flounder under his ‘lack of leadership.’ He is actively holding back progress and opportunities for the next generation.
  • The 2026 midterms are fast approaching, and we have an opportunity to take back the Senate and maintain control of the House. This is no longer just a fight for policy—it’s a fight for competent leadership. The American people deserve a government that works for them, not against them
  • President Van Horn, if you won’t lead, the American people will find someone who will. You may think you are running loose like a fox in a henhouse for the time being, but you will get everything coming to you, once the American people have had enough with the false advertising, lies, deceit, and overall incompetent behavior. Our students and families deserve better than vetoes and excuses. They deserve hope, opportunity, and a brighter future.

Republican Circus Around Pell Grants

Target: National Center, left

- "The Van Horn Circus continues. The costs of college for everyone everywhere is rising. That is why we made this bill to expand pell grants to help those working Americans that need that hand up the most. Just as he and his cronies have done throughout his entire term, the Van Horn Circus has kicked them while they are down."

- "It is hard to describe how out of touch this veto is. Democrats took care to make this a bipartisan bill. There was not a single house or senate member that voted for it. I will say that again. Not 1 out of the 535 members of congress voted against this bill. There is only one person that opposes this bill and it is President Van Horn"

- "Now Van Horn is whipping his circus act back in line and they're all changing their mind and voting against it. Now more than ever we need Democrats to control the house and Senate to shut this circus down and get back to making life better and cheaper for working Americans."

Reason: Van Horn's Pathetic Veto and the Impact it has on Hawaii

Target: Local for Hawaii

  • President Van Horn’s veto of the Pell Grant Preservation and Expansion Act is a direct attack on Hawaii’s students, who already face some of the highest costs of living in the nation. For many young people in our state, Pell Grants are not just financial assistance Hawaiians are working harder than ever to provide for their families and give their children a shot at a better future.
  • Hawaiians are working harder than ever to provide for their families and give their children a shot at a better future. By vetoing this bill, President Van Horn has turned his back on the middle and working class, leaving them to shoulder the burden of rising tuition costs and dwindling resources for higher education
  • This veto doesn’t just hurt students, it hurts educators too. With fewer students able to afford higher education, our community colleges and universities face potential cuts to programs and resources. This short-sighted decision threatens the very educators who are shaping the next generation of Hawaiians.
  • In Hawaii, we pride ourselves on our strong sense of ohana, family and community. Education is the bridge that connects our young people to opportunity, stability, and success. By vetoing this bill, President Van Horn has effectively raised barriers to that opportunity, leaving families and communities in Hawaii struggling to pick up the pieces.
  • Hawaii deserves better than a President who ignores the needs of our keiki (children) and our hardworking families. President Van Horn’s veto may be a setback, but we will not let it define us. Together, we will fight for the resources, opportunities, and future our people deserve.

Reason: Van Horn's "Cost" Argument being a Paradox, and Ironic

Target: National Right and Center

  • President Van Horn claims this veto was necessary because 'it would cost too much.' Let’s not forget, this is the same President who unilaterally pushed through costly initiatives like E-Verify via executive order, without a second thought about their price tag. His defense is not only weak but laughably hypocritical.
  • This administration can’t seem to decide whether they want to cut spending or spend recklessly. On one hand, they veto life-changing education investments, citing costs. On the other, they greenlight expensive and controversial projects like E-Verify without blinking. This erratic behavior proves how unorganized and flighty this administration truly is.
  • Let’s be honest, this veto isn’t about fiscal responsibility. It’s about political convenience. The President’s claim that this bill would cost too much is nothing more than a convenient excuse to avoid addressing the real needs of Americans. He’s using our students and families as pawns in his political game.
  • The truth is, investing in education yields long-term economic benefits. The Pell Grant Expansion isn’t a burden—it’s an investment in our future. The President’s cost argument is not only misleading but completely out of touch with basic economic principles.
  • President Van Horn’s disorganized, flighty approach to governing has real consequences for Americans. We deserve better than an administration that can’t decide whether to invest in our future or cling to empty excuses about costs.

Name: Earl Duplantis (R-LA)
Reason: Necessary Veto of Pell Grant Preservation and Expansion Act of 2025
Target: Right, Center

  • "I think the logic of the President in this case is sound. For all the hysterics from certain Democrats more interested in soundbites for their eventual attempts at public humiliation by the President on election night 2028, they've yet to really offer a counter-argument to his genuine concerns."
  • "In spite of well-intentions from many who voted for it, there is a clear cost issue. We're talking about legislation that will fund nine years worth of education at four year institutions. Putting aside how that blows through pretty much every state university in the country's desire to have students graduate within four years, I think it poses a legitimate problem of drawing out the collegiate experience more. Adverse effects on both Pell Grant recipients and non-recipients as colleges adjust to that reality would be damaging."
  • "This legislation would unnecessarily weigh significantly into the very real debate and discussion around border security and immigration reform by creating legal uncertainty around the status of the DACA program. I trust the judgement of the DoJ on this one and I think it would be inappropriate to create such uncertainty for the American People, if not to mention individuals within this program themselves."
  • "Democrats have little else to say beside painting pictures that you wouldn't even hang on your fridge. The same Democrats complaining about this drastic escalation in the college system are the same Democrats actively trying to tank bipartisan legislation that would provide immediate relief for consumers at the pump. It was these same Democrats who ran to the press, calling this the most important issue of the moment in a desperate bid to take advantage of stabilizing gas prices after years of upheaval globally for partisan politics, before happily voting down that exact relief because they couldn't get the extreme parts of their agenda that was already voted down bipartisansly through! Americans need relief at the pump and a roaring energy sector and we intend to deliver on that."

  • If I may start with a quote from Hamilton, "If you stand for nothing, Burr, what will you fall for?" I mean does the GOP really believe that they can pull the wool of the eyes of the American people. It was barely a few weeks ago when not a single Republican in the Senate voted against the bill. It wasn't more than a few months ago when the House voted unanimously in favor of passage. Now here we are with every GOP congressman rushing to vote against the bill to satisfy their constituency of one.
  • I hope nearly every Republican in Washington has taken some time to buy themselves a new pair of flip flops. Republican Senators were announcing their support for the bill and Republicans couldn't even get support for their amendment to maintain or even cut down the eligibility of the Pell Grant. It is a shame that for the second Republican President in a row that GOP is far more willing to bend the knee to Potus than to represent the people who elected them to Washington.
  • I do not have time for people who cannot even speak outside of both sides of their mouths right. This is just so absurd at this point. The People's first Agenda doesn't include helping American students? And to blow up something that passed by such an overwhelming margin on a very flimsy basis. Let us be clear, the President and Republicans are blocking aid to American students who are dealing with higher than ever costs because of people who were brought here as children. Truly a President who is putting the people first.
  • It is a shame for a President who has tried to put so much focus on looking tough on Immigration that he's hosted exactly zero talks to pass legislation that would say actually address the issues in the system and secure the border. It is almost as if he is not interested in solving the crisis permanently but looking to make immigration a cover for any policy he does not like.
  • The Pell Grant Preservation and Expansion Act would have helped American families all over this country. It would have massively increased the aid being given to the thirty percent of college students receiving aid. Meaning that those students would have to take out fewer and fewer loans to pay for school. It's likely that their parents would've taken out less through the Parent's Plus loan programs. That is the part that really bothers me the most. Not any of the Washington politiking, but simply that real people's lives could have been improved. It is such a shame that this is what the GOP chose to do here.

Sam Crafts leads push for GREEN Housing in Washington

Target: Local, national left

- "I am happy to work with my state level colleagues and with the governors office to pass this crucial bill to create jobs and housing for all Washingtonians. My bill created a federal blueprint and the awesome leaders here in Washington knew that it would help working families from Seattle to Spokane."

- "This bill proves the value of pragmatic progressivism. It means we can solve multiple problems efficiently. We can lower housing costs, lower unemployment, and fight the climate crisis all at the same time. If the Republican circus in DC won't do it then we will do it here without them whether they like it or not."

- "The fight is never over and I will continue to advocate for the working families of Washington State and of the entire country. I will continue to lead to fight for cheaper housing, cheaper education, and affordable healthcare for all."

Target: National left, center

- "Just as I said on the floor of the Senate when I voted against it, the DAEIA is a poison pill that we do not have to swallow. When we see the effects of the climate emergency so clearly every day, I cannot in good conscience vote to keep burning more fossil fuels."

- "There should be no expansion of oil leases when oil companies are developing on less than half of the leases given to them. Its like giving a child two scoops of ice cream when they still have a slice of cake on their plate. They don't need it and the only thing its gonna do is make things much worse."

- "President Van Horn touts the keystone pipeline as some godsend that will somehow create jobs and lower gas prices. The truth is the pipeline will only create 35 full time jobs and his party just voted down amendments to make sure the energy isn't sold to other nations. Ill say that again, he's trying to say this will transform the economy when he is shipping energy overseas instead of to American families and not even making enough jobs to field an NFL team! All while risking the environment on every mile."

- "House Democrats need to stand strong against this power grab by the oil companies. Stand for our earth. Stand for our public lands. Stand for fighting the climate crisis."

Reason: Defending American Energy Independence Act Debate in House of Representatives

Target(s): National Center, Local

  • I do not think that the House should pass the amendments currently up for debate for the same reason that they did not pass the previous ones—they are poison pill amendments that will kill the bill. And while it may not be a perfect bill, it is a good compromise that promotes American energy and has already earned bipartisan support in the Senate: 89-11 in support. It’s as simple as that.

  • I’ve always considered myself pro-energy, be it from natural gas or nuclear or solar or wind or whatever. I am all for more options, more innovation, more jobs, more competition, and lower costs. This approach has allowed our country to drastically lower emissions by encouraging innovation, allowing us to switch to cleaner, more efficient energy sources without sacrificing standard of living.

  • The energy sector is important everywhere, but it’s especially important in my home state of Pennsylvania, where the Shale Revolution has helped us mitigate the damage that deindustrialization did to us, supporting countless jobs and families and bringing investment in to our state when otherwise, jobs were often just leaving so many of our communities. Working families rely on cheap energy prices to heat their homes and power their commute to work—I don’t think we should be trying to make things harder for them to make a broader point.

Republicans are playing the worst kind of politics

Target: National left, center

- "In a perfect world, you have a bipartisan bill that reduces the price of college for those working families who need it them most. Nobody in congress votes against it. The President signs it and everyone is happy. Unfortunately we're in the circus tent here and that didn't happen with pell grant expansion."

- "The Republicans didn't vote against overriding Van Horn's veto because they oppose the bill. We know that because every single House Republican voted for it the first time. They voted against it because they are playing politics. Plain and simple. Ringleader Van Horn saw it was a Democrat that wrote it so he vetoed it. Then every Republican changed their vote to kill it. Once the ringleader whipped them in line they all put politics over working people."

- "The American people are sick of these types of political games. They want real results. They want a party that is able to govern. They don't want their congress to have single digit approval but when shenanigans like this happen that is what they get. They get more and more and more of the Republican circus and they get stuck with higher and higher bills."

- "Working families will remember this comical betrayal when they vote for the party that actually wants solutions for the problems they face."

It was one of my top priorities and now I am proud to say there are 19 new wild and scenic rivers and 126,000 new acres of wilderness land in Washington State. It passed Congress unanimously and is now law!"

- "I am going to keep fighting for our local economy and keep fighting to deliver results to Washingtonian families. Be it in our outdoor recreation economy, reducing housing prices, making education more affordable, or making healthcare affordable for everyone, working families should know I am always on their side."

Crafts lauds Democratic Housing Plan

Target: National Center, left

-"The House Act is exactly what we need to tackle the Van Horn Housing Crisis. Democrats are united behind this plan and I am proud to join them in fighting to reduce costs for working families."

- "Housing isn’t just an economic issue—it’s a matter of dignity. This bill makes housing a national priority, ensuring that working families have access to stable, affordable, and high-quality homes by funding the first public efforts to build them in over 30 years."

- "We are directly tying federal insurance policies to renter protections to make sure renters can avoid unjust evictions. Corporate landlords will no longer be able to kick a working family out on the street to make a quick buck."

-"I am proud to have language from my GREEN Housing Act which provides funding to make sure these homes and the ones that already exist are energy efficient. When a dishwasher uses less water or an AC unit uses less power, its good for everyone. Its good for the renters with lower utility bills and its good for the environment because less energy is being used which drives down costs for everyone."

-"The main takeaway of this is that Democrats have a plan and that plan is to overhaul a broken housing system and deliver lower costs to every American."

However in all honesty I think that he has nothing left except to oppose and claim that he is a "fighter" of some sort. This bill passed unanimously through the House, it passed with no Nay votes in the Senate, and yet the President can't pass it? How can this guy claim to be a deal maker or a leader when he is opposing common sense bipartisan legislation".
  • "I honestly don't know what sorts of things go on in the Van Horn Whitehouse, but it is clear they are in utter confusion and just winging it as they go along. They come out to support something one day, and they veto something the next day. They have no plan, no agenda, they are rudderless and floundering... It is honestly sad to watch".
  • "Democrats once again have put forward legislation that got broad agreement from both sides only to be shot down from Kremlin Kyle. He doesn't care about students and those who will someday be the backbone of this country".
  • "We need a President who has his priorities right. Van Horn needs to stop submitting to Putin's every want and start working for the American people. I have since 2024, been working for the people of Hawaii, and I think I have done a good job in that. As I was taught in Sunday school, I am going to just turn the other cheek, forgive, and move on.
  • Duplantis is stuck in the past, still trying to come up with attack lines against me in 2024, we are two years later, and they haven't figured that out yet. They are lost, rudderless and floundering. Democrats in both the Senate and House have stood up for Americans time and time again, and we will continue to do that".

Reason: Democratic Insanity Over Defending American Energy Independence Act
Target: Right, Center

  • "House Democrats have taken it upon themselves to blow up a bipartisan deal on energy reform that would allow immediate relief for the American People and strengthen virtually all sectors of our energy sector. 89-11. That was the number of Democrats and Republicans who, after nearly a year of this bill being on the floor and more than one round of negotiations I helped shape in the Senate, that came together to pass a good bill. The nature of Washington is that you don't always get everything you wanted from the Christmas list but it appears that Democrats are willing to hold back relief for you because they didn't get their most left-wing proposals included."
  • "Democrats have shattered the deal made to notch some more partisan wins, a vain if not pathetic attempt. Minority Leader Raphael Coleman told me directly that the bipartisan bill would get the support needed to pass the Senate and pass the House expeditiously while also claiming this was agreed to by Congressional Democratic Leadership. Now you have a Speaker of the House claiming he was never spoken to by the Minority Leader about such a deal. How can the American People expect this Congress to work functionally when my counterpart is, unfortunately, a liar? Don't piss down my leg and tell me its raining, the Minority Leader lied to me and the Speaker and now Democrats are pretending the bipartisan deal that has been discussed publicly for months was something they actually didn't have to take seriously."
  • "Let's be clear here: Democrats are stalling immediate gas price relief and energy investment for you, the working people of this country, because they want to cripple hundreds of thousands of jobs in the oil and gas industry, a regressive windfall tax that will raise costs for consumers and deter business, and a poison pill designed to kill the Keystone pipeline. That is what Congressional Democrats have decided is worth doing while average Americans suffer, as the Democrats claim they are over stabilizing gas prices."
  • "I'm frankly shocked at so many purported 'moderates' and Blue Dog Democrats on their side casting their lot with the far-left loons trying to scuttle this deal. These are politicians, from your local legislator, to your congressman, to your Senator, and to your Governor, who stand up on a soap box every cycle and pretend as though they aren't in cahoots with the far-left of their party. They claim they will fight for commonsense issues and stand up for American industries, like oil and gas, only to now vote in lockstep. If you put Chandler Williams and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the same room as each other, I couldn't even begin to tell you where they actually disagree!"

Reason: Democrats killing energy independence

Target: National Center, and Right

·         Democrats are the party that does not want energy independence for the past few months we senate republicans made a bill that allows for the United States to be energy independent modernizing our power infrastructure.

·         We worked with democrats on this bill such as adopting amendments that increase our independence such as the geothermal energy bill, and the gas tax break something that is apart of the bill and would have been signed into law if it wasn’t for democrats obstructing, we would already have this into law

·         But let’s make another point here some of the so-called moderates of the democratic party which are the blue dogs who were supposed to be the comprise faction of the democratic party voted for all the amendments that will kill more drilling and make us more dependent on Saudi oil and other nations that are more hostile to us policy.

·         So let’s remember it is the republican party that wants the United States to be energy independent, make more jobs towards the energy sector whether it be fossil fuels, nuclear, wind, and anything else and also give you a tax break. The democrats want us to be begging for oil from other nations than say we are not doing enough for the American people it is party filled with hypocrites and obstructionist

Crafts calls for action on Skyrocketing Gas Prices

Target: National Center, left

- "Its not secret that under the Van Horn circus working families are not better off than they were in 2024. One of those ways is because gas prices are up to twice the amount that they were in 2024. That is why I support my Democratic colleague's efforts to do something about it."

-"The Low Gas Prices for Americans Today Act is not some tax break for the oil companies or a blank check for polluters to ravage our natural resources. It is target relief through a gas tax holiday that requires the benefits to be passed on to the consumer. Oil companies would not be able to keep price gouging and lining their pockets at the expense of working Americans."

- "The only way we can get this done is if the Republicans play ball and stop playing politics. That is why I am calling on Majority Leader Duplantis to bring this bill to the floor. Let Senators vote on it. Lets stop playing politics on the backs of American families. It isn't rocket science. Its just the right thing to do."

Storm Stands with American Families, Pushing for a Fair and Clean Gas Tax Holiday

Target- New York State Wide, National Center

-This is a moment where Republicans and Democrats can come together to show the American people that we hear their concerns. Supporting the clean gas tax holiday isn’t about politics—it’s about lowering costs for families struggling with high gas prices. Let’s prove that Washington can work for the people.

-Rising gas prices hurt every American, but they especially hit working families who rely on their vehicles to get to work and care for their loved ones. By voting for this bill, Republicans have the chance to deliver tangible, immediate relief to the constituents they represent.

-While families are being crushed by rising gas prices, Earl Duplantis is holding a clean, bipartisan gas tax holiday hostage to demand more corporate giveaways. Americans deserve better than a leader who prioritizes corporate greed over their basic needs.

-The choice is clear: Earl Duplantis stands with oil billionaires and corporations, while the rest of us are left paying the price at the pump. Americans won’t forget who turned their back on them when they needed relief the most.

-The Lower Gas Prices for Americans Today Act is a clean and targeted measure with no extra add-ons or hidden agendas. It’s focused solely on providing relief at the pump for Americans. We urge Republicans to join us in making a real difference for our country.

    • A Sudden Burst of Sanity Strikes Congress By Rondal Goldfarb In another whiplash moment that defied expectations, Congress courageously stood up in unity to push back against some of the most egregious policy proposals of the 119th sessions to expand the welfare state.  In a shocking plot twist, the uniparty united against itself in a flurry of final votes in the final death throes of the 119th Congress. After a long session of rocketing through so many socialist bills through Congress at a speed that almost risked warping space time to deliver us into an alternative universe where their dystopian hellscape thrives, Speaker Jeffries and Minority Leader Hern (R-OK) curb stomped the brakes so hard that they actually flipped time back into a world where common sense survives and the free market still reigns, if only for a blissful but serene moment. After months of Democrats campaigning hard on their Soviet housing scheme, the HOUSE Act, and pitching the idea to every exhausted midwest farmer who took a blood oath to vote for them if they would just stop harassing them, Congresscritters united in lockstep to flush their own bill down the toilet and say JK by a vote of 433-0! Back to the drawing board. And thank goodness. The HOUSE Act, sponsored by Senators Storm, Guenther, and our old friend, Commie Kahiona, has a litany of problems with it but now that it has been relegated to the dustbin of history by the sponsors’ own Party, we’ll just cover the topline insanity: The HOUSE Act invests $175 Billion in taxpayer dollars into new public housing projects. Par for the course from The Three Apparatchiks. Public housing is a fundamentally flawed policy that exemplifies the inefficiencies of government intervention in the housing market. By centralizing control over housing production and management, public housing programs often suffer from poor quality construction, inadequate maintenance, and misallocation of resources. These projects frequently fail to meet the actual needs of low-income communities, fostering dependency rather than empowerment. Furthermore, public housing disrupts the natural dynamics of supply and demand, discouraging private investment and innovation in affordable housing solutions and raising costs for everyone else. A better approach would be to reduce regulatory barriers, such as construction mandates and Davis Bacon requirements, to encourage a competitive housing market that organically addresses the diverse needs of individuals while promoting economic mobility and self-reliance. While it is perfectly reasonable to question the Republican leadership’s judgment as well, given their sworn allegiance to the People’s First Agenda, the move somewhat tracks with the sudden reversal from trend in their decision to kill the veto overturn over the Blutarsky Bill. Interestingly though, the Republicans are the only ones that have justified their actions in the House on this issue. Democrats, meanwhile, have been as unified in their silence on the motion as they were in their opposition. Outgoing Senate Majority Leader Duplantis (R-Red Lobster) tried to get Senator Storm to answer for it on the Corporate News Media’s bungled election coverage but was met with the same deafening silence as when Vanessa Taylor herself also asked them questions they did not want to answer. Personally, we do not really need a reason; we just hope this turning over a new leaf for Congress carries over into the next session. But wait. There’s more! After politically posturing from adding modest benefit changes to Medicare all the way through Medicare for All and beyond, House Democrats and Republicans both finally mustered enough courage to unanimously renounce a bill by the DNC Chair herself, Senator O’Hare (D-HI), to provide coverage for dental, vision, and hearing services under Medicare. Nevermind that the program has less than 10 years left to live even before considering the additional costs of the proposed expanded benefits. For reasons that remain unknown to all, (even staffers could be seen literally aghast from camera #4 on C-SPAN 2,) House Democrats under Speaker Jeffries finally heard the call of their fallen comrade, President Biden, and beat Medicare. Or saved it, from our perspective. At least for now. We really are not in Kansas anymore. This phenomenon is basically unprecedented in House history. Why did the leadership of a party that campaigned so heavily on housing and health issues suddenly bring up their own bills in the final weeks of Congress only to self-immolate them on the floor like a teething toddler in a tantrum? The world may never know.  But for the rest of us watching at home, your entitlements will endure a little longer, and we are not all being rounded into taxpayer-sponsored Soviet style tenements against our will just yet. At least until January. Until then, you can check out any time you like, but only if you continue to: #ChooseFreedom
    • Treasury Secretary Levi Koenig Approves New Opportunity Zones in New Jersey, Calls for Nationwide Participation by Jean Luke Perry Secretary of the Treasury Levi Koenig has announced the approval of a request to designate New Jersey’s Urban Enterprise Zones as federal Opportunity Zones at the request of Senator Vini Vinachelli (R-NJ), marking a significant expansion of the program aimed at driving economic revitalization in distressed communities. The move comes as part of the Innovation Growth Amendment under the Permanent Tax Cuts Act, championed by Senators Levi Koenig (R-FL), Osiris Storm (D-NY), Charlotte O’Hare (D-HI), and led by the Van Horn administration. The initiative will bring a new round of 5,000 Opportunity Zones to economically struggling areas, including those within New Jersey’s UEZs. Secretary Koenig hailed the decision as a “strategic alignment of federal and state resources to unlock unprecedented investment and growth.” “New Jersey’s Urban Enterprise Zones have been a proven success in fostering economic development, and expanding the Opportunity Zone program to these areas will enhance their impact,” Koenig said in a press conference. “I encourage states across the country to submit their proposals for the next round of designations so we can continue driving transformative change in underserved communities.” New Jersey’s UEZs, which have historically faced high unemployment and limited access to capital, will now benefit from the tax incentives and investment opportunities provided by the OZ framework. This dual-front strategy leverages federal and state initiatives to attract private-sector investment, support infrastructure projects, and stimulate business development. The Treasury Department also confirmed that existing Opportunity Zones expiring in December 2026 would be eligible for re-designation under the new legislation, granting an additional five years of benefits to previously designated areas. This renewal option aims to ensure sustained growth in areas where OZs have shown measurable success. Governor Jack Ciattarelli of New Jersey added, “This designation positions our state as a leader in economic revitalization. We’re committed to ensuring these new Opportunity Zones create equitable and sustainable opportunities for residents and businesses.” The Treasury Department has invited all states to submit proposals for the expanded Opportunity Zone program, emphasizing the importance of targeting areas with significant economic challenges. Secretary Koenig assured that the application process would prioritize transparency and collaboration with local governments and community stakeholders. As the next round of Opportunity Zone designations begins, the federal government is optimistic that the expanded program will continue driving private investment into areas most in need, fulfilling its mission to foster economic opportunity and build stronger, more resilient communities.
